Fixing Mixed Content Warnings After Installing SSL
A mixed content warning means your HTTPS page still loads some files over plain HTTP. Find them in your browser's developer console, then change the old http:// addresses to https://, in WordPress usually with a search-and-replace on the database.
What is Mixed Content?
Mixed content occurs when your HTTPS page loads resources (images, scripts, stylesheets) over insecure HTTP. Browsers block or warn about this, and the padlock icon won't appear.
Finding Mixed Content
Open your browser's Developer Tools (F12) and check the Console tab. Mixed content warnings will list the exact URLs causing the issue.
Fixing in WordPress
Install the Really Simple SSL plugin - it automatically detects and fixes most mixed content issues. Alternatively, use Better Search Replace to change all http://yourdomain.com references to https://yourdomain.com in the database. You can also use the Search & Replace tool in your HostBarrel site's Tools tab.
Fixing in HTML
For static sites, update hardcoded http:// URLs in your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files to https:// or use protocol-relative URLs (//example.com/image.jpg).
Verify the Fix
After making changes, use Why No Padlock (whynopadlock.com) to scan your site for any remaining mixed content issues.
